certainly one the monuments i like most.
when i saw that guy wearing a cleric robe and holding a burning torch in his hand on the markt in maastricht first time some years ago i was wondering who he was: some unsung hero of the inquisition? it turned out later that he invented the street lighting by gas - well, probably one of the many inventing it. yet it is one of the few performative monument i could think of - it does a bit more than just standing there attracting doves.

dutch design? maybe. practical as this brush may be (hanging there already for about two days without popping off), it fails to convince me for reasons i can't gouge. maybe it's just _too_ practical.

in germany and austria it's falcon silhouettes that should scare birds away from crashing into windows. in the netherlands apparently swallows are understood to be predators
seen in douvendrecht.
